THE RUBY RED MONTH OF JULY

Posted on: 7/8/2014 9:39 AM

The ruby, also known as the stone of romance is one of the highest valued coloured gemstones in the world.  Rubies have been prized for centuries due to their durability and treasured rich red hue and lustre often referred to as ‘pigeon’s blood’.

The most important sources for rubies include Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, Sri Lanka and Tanzania.
Legend has it, that the owner of a ruby is assured a life of peace and plenty. The vivid red colour of ruby also means that it is associated with desire, and it is thought by some to be a stone of love with an aphrodisiac effect. The ruby has long been attributed with the ability to protect its wearer from injury and to cure blood disorders and circulatory problems. It is also said to provide its wearer with energy, emotional strength, positive attitude, heightened awareness and focus.

Rubies are tough and durable, so they do not require any special care.  Always remove any jewellery or gemstones before exercising, cleaning or engaging in harsh physical activities such as sport. Do not expose rubies to acid and store rubies away from other gemstones to avoid scratches.

Experts In Diamond Selection

Understanding a diamonds characteristics and qualities is very important when making that special purchase.

A method called the '4cs' has been developed to explain the grading system of diamonds - Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat Weight>

If not explained properly, you could be investing unnecessarily. With over 40 year’s experience in the industry, Nicola Cerrone is sharing his tips in order of importance.>

- The cut and colour grade are the most important features to look at when purchasing a diamond.

- The last thing you want is to look down at your diamond and see black spots.  Clarity, which refers to the visibility of blemishes in the diamond should be SI1+ and above

- The round brilliant cut is the most sort after shape of diamond due to its cut and the way it allows the light to shine through, However because of this you will pay a premium.  Be adventurous and different and look at fancy shape diamonds.  They are good value and allows you to be unique.

Above all, do your research but trust your consultant.  As long as you are attracted to the diamond and you love it that is all that matters.

Celebrating Italian National Day

In celebration of the 'Italian National Day' today we take a stroll through Nicola Cerrone's hometown of Lanciano in the Abruzzo region of central Italy. Abruzzo boasts the title of Greenest Region in Europe.

The ancient town of Lanciano , a few km from the Adriatic and in the heart of the commercial south-eastern corner of Abruzzo, is rich in art, history and events for the visitors, and a special religious destination for its famous 'Eucharistic Miracle'.

Well known for the export quality produce such as pasta, olives, vegetables, fruit and dairy products as well as traditional products such as saffron and liquorice. However the regions most prized contribution to the world is Abruzzo's wine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.

Nicola Cerrone was proudly awarded 'The Keys to the City' in 2005 and is an honored citizen of the region, sitting along side Madonna, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Formular 1 Racer Jarno Trulli and famous pasta producer Filippo Giovanni De Cecco (De Cecco pasta).

'THE CHAMPIONSHIPS' TROPHY - DESIGNED AND CRAFTED BY CERRONE

Posted on: 5/15/2014 9:53 AM

Championships Trophy

Australian racing's newest jewel in the crown, The Championships in Sydney, now has world-class trophies to match with stunning creations by leading luxury jewellery house Cerrone.

The trophies, featuring an emerald horse with Argyle pink diamond eyes and black diamond mane and hooves were crafted for The Championships at Royal Randwick on April 12 and 19.

The use of emeralds was inspired by Sydney being known as 'The Emerald City'. In the classic book, and later movie The Wizard of Oz, The Emerald City is located in the center of the Land of Oz, at the end of the famous yellow brick road.

After researching trophies throughout the world the design chosen was "innovative, creative and different - to really show the world Australian talent", said Mr Nic Cerrone, adding the curves of the horse was fundamental to the design of the trophy. "Curves are a main element of Cerrone designs, they represent nature and in this case sculpt the magnificently stong and muscular detail of the racehorse".

Each major trophy was pave set with over 2,000 green emeralds weighing over 40ct and 140 black diamonds weighing 4.52ct with 2 natural Australian Argyle pink diamond for eyes.

The trophies were awarded to winning connections of the 10 Championships races on Day 1 and Day 2 of The Championships.  They add further prestige to the event which already carries a stunning $18.2million in prizemoney.  Winning trainers and jockeys also receive a miniture replica of the trophy.
